The Wombats "Is This Christmas For Xmas Number One......Simon Cowell vs Les Dennis // Muppets vs Marsupials

So its that time of year again, we find our selves hurtling towards the end of another year, and another countless months of Simon Cowell all over out tv screens and his offsprings / manufactured machines polluting our airwaves.

Although Ive managed to avoid all of this years X Factor, thankfully, I have heard mumblings along the line of the hopefuls not being that good.

So as with last year, and the track We're All Going to Die by Malcolm Middleton, it may not have reasched the dizzy heights of number one but what it did do was get talk of an artist other than that Xfactor clan into the public domain at a time of the year it otherwise wouldn't

So cutting to the point how about a similar campaign this year? Give "real" music fans something to talk and ponder over that isn't something voting for a complete unknown on a Saturday night

Liverpudlians The Wombats seem the most likely choice:
The song in question is this christmas, is so apt right now its unbelieveable!!!!:

"i can hear the sleigh bells comign around the bend
here comes the darkest end
christmas is here

it's about nights extend into the overdraft
to scrape out what is left
at the end of the year"

So it may not be as dark and sinister as Malcolm Middletons offering last year but its a song that the nation can relate to, more than some inevitable half baked cover on a tv show anyway!

The video features fellow scouser Les Dennis and the proceeds of the single which is out to buy on the 15th December go to Mencap

The Dead 60's are dead

Looks like Ska has no place in 21st century Britain

Arguably the Dead 60's in their finest moment "Riot on the radio"

The best cover version of all time?

Surely this has to be the main contender?

Los Campesinos!

Will write about the album in greater depths when Ive lived with it for a few more days. My first verdict though: It may pnly be February but I can see this being one of the debut albums of 2008

Here's the video to the recent single "Death To Los Campesinos"
